Overview

What vitamin injections do and who benefits

An intramuscular vitamin injection places a concentrated dose of a vitamin into the shoulder or hip muscle, from where it enters the bloodstream over the following hours. The digestive system is bypassed, which matters for vitamin B12 in particular: absorption from food and tablets depends on stomach acid and a protein called intrinsic factor, and it drops with age, with acid-reducing medication, with metformin, after bariatric surgery and on vegetarian and vegan diets. An injection delivers the full dose regardless.

Rethink offers three kinds of injection. B12 supports energy, red blood cell production, nerve function and metabolism, and it is the most requested shot. Immune support injections combine nutrients that support the immune system during travel, stress and the cold season. Vitamin boosters are selected at your visit for goals such as recovery or skin and hair health. The menu is reviewed with you when you book, and other vitamins are discussed case by case.

Patients from Manhasset, Great Neck, Port Washington and across Nassau County book vitamin injections for fatigue and brain fog, as a quick alternative to a full IV drip, as part of a weight management or peptide program, and for maintenance between IV visits.

What it treats

What vitamin injections help with

Injections correct a shortfall and support a goal. They do not replace a balanced diet or treat a medical condition, and when your symptoms point to something else Tami says so and suggests blood work or a referral.

  • Fatigue, low energy and brain fog
  • Suspected low B12 on a vegetarian or vegan diet
  • Reduced absorption from acid-reducing medication, metformin or bariatric surgery
  • Immune support before travel and during the cold season
  • Metabolism and energy during a weight management program
  • Recovery after illness or a demanding stretch
  • Skin, hair and nail support
  • Maintenance between IV therapy sessions

How it works

How a vitamin injection visit works at Rethink

A visit takes about ten minutes in a private treatment suite at 496 Plandome Road in Manhasset. New patients complete a short screening first; returning patients are in and out.

01

Screening

Tami asks about your symptoms, diet, medications and any allergies, and confirms which injection fits your goal. When a true deficiency is likely, she recommends a blood test first or a course that follows the deficiency schedule. Returning patients skip straight to the injection after a quick check-in.

02

The injection

The site on the shoulder or hip is cleaned, and the injection takes a few seconds with a fine needle. Most patients describe a brief sting. A small dressing covers the site, and you can leave immediately. No numbing is needed.

03

Frequency

For a likely deficiency, B12 is given weekly for four weeks and then monthly. For wellness and energy, every two to four weeks is typical. Immune support injections are timed around travel or the cold season, and vitamin boosters follow the schedule set for your goal.

04

Combining with other care

Injections can be added to an IV drip visit at a reduced pace of appointments, folded into a weight management or peptide program, or booked on their own. Tami keeps a record of dates and doses so the schedule stays sensible and nothing is overdone.

Results

Results, how long they last and side effects

Patients who are low in B12 often notice more energy and clearer thinking within one to three days of the first injection, with the effect building over the first month of weekly shots. Patients whose levels are already adequate notice less, which is why the screening matters. B12 is stored in the liver, so a monthly injection maintains levels once they are restored. Immune support and booster injections are felt over the following days and are repeated as needed.

There is no downtime. Side effects are limited to a sore spot or a small bruise at the injection site for a day, and occasionally mild redness. B12 is water-soluble and the body excretes what it does not need, so excess is not stored. Serious reactions are rare and are related to allergy to an ingredient, which the screening asks about.

Candidates and safety

Who is a good candidate for vitamin injections

Vitamin injections suit adults with fatigue or brain fog, patients on plant-based or restrictive diets, patients whose medication or surgery reduces absorption, frequent travelers, and anyone who wants a quick, well-tolerated support between IV drips or during a wellness program. They also suit patients who dislike swallowing supplements or whose stomach does not tolerate them.

Injections are postponed with a fever or active infection and avoided with a known allergy to cobalt or to any ingredient in the formulation. Cyanocobalamin, one form of B12, is not used in patients with Leber’s hereditary optic neuropathy. Tell Tami if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have kidney disease or take medications that affect vitamin levels, so the choice and the schedule are adjusted. Persistent fatigue with normal levels deserves a medical work-up, and Tami will say so.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What are B12 injections for?

B12 injections correct or prevent low vitamin B12, which the body needs for energy metabolism, red blood cells and nerve function. They help most in patients with poor absorption: vegetarians and vegans, people on acid-reducing medication or metformin, patients after bariatric surgery and older adults. They are also used for energy and metabolism support during a wellness or weight program.

How often should I get B12 injections?

For a likely deficiency, weekly for four weeks and then monthly to maintain levels. For energy and wellness, every two to four weeks is typical. Tami sets the schedule after a short screening and adjusts it to how you respond.

Are B12 injections safe?

Yes. B12 is water-soluble, so the body excretes what it does not need, and side effects are limited to a sore spot or small bruise at the site. Injections are avoided with an allergy to cobalt or another ingredient and, for the cyanocobalamin form, with Leber's hereditary optic neuropathy. A screening before the first injection covers these points.

How much are B12 injections in Manhasset?

B12 and immune support injections start at $40 at Rethink, including the screening. Packages are available for a series of four or more, and injections can be added to an IV drip visit.

How long does it take for a B12 injection to work?

Patients who are low in B12 usually notice more energy and clearer thinking within one to three days, with the full effect after the first month of weekly injections. Patients with normal levels notice less. A monthly injection then maintains the level.

Do you offer vitamin D, glutathione or lipotropic injections?

The current menu is B12, immune support and vitamin boosters selected at your visit. Ask about other vitamins when you book, and Tami will tell you what she can offer. Injections aimed at fat metabolism are part of the Sculpt & Slim program, which has its own page.

Do I need a prescription or an appointment?

Vitamin injections are given under Tami's medical license, so no outside prescription is needed; the screening at your first visit replaces it. Book a ten-minute slot online or by call or text. Same-day appointments are often available on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday during office hours.
