What a chemical peel does and how BioRePeel differs
A chemical peel applies an acid solution to the skin for a set time. The acid loosens the bonds between dead cells on the surface, which shed over the following days, and it triggers a controlled repair response in the living layers below: faster cell turnover, more even pigment distribution and new collagen. Light peels use alpha and beta hydroxy acids such as glycolic, lactic and salicylic acid and work on the surface. Medium peels, usually based on trichloroacetic acid (TCA), reach the upper dermis and treat deeper lines and pigmentation.
BioRePeel is the main peel at Rethink. It is a biphasic peel built around 35 percent TCA combined with other acids, amino acids and vitamins. Because the formulation stimulates the skin from within with little destruction of the surface, most patients see no visible peeling, only light flaking for a day or two. It suits all skin tones, can be used year-round and on the body as well as the face, and is repeated every two to four weeks in a series. Where a concern calls for a different depth or acid, Tami selects a light or medium peel to match.

How it works
How a chemical peel works at Rethink
A peel takes 30 to 45 minutes in a private treatment suite at 496 Plandome Road in Manhasset. New patients begin with a complimentary skin consultation, and a first peel can follow the same day when your skin is prepared.

Consultation and skin assessment
Tami examines your skin, asks about acne, melasma, cold sores, retinoid use and recent sun exposure, and chooses the peel and the depth. Skin that has been in strong sun, recently waxed or treated with isotretinoin in the past six months waits. Photographs are taken so the series can be compared.

Cleansing and application
The skin is cleansed and degreased, sensitive areas are protected, and the solution is applied evenly with a brush or gauze in layers. BioRePeel stays on for several minutes and is then massaged in and neutralized. Most patients feel tingling and warmth that fades within minutes. A soothing cream and sunscreen finish the visit.

Aftercare
Skin may look slightly pink for a few hours and feel tight for a day. Use only the gentle cleanser and moisturizer Tami recommends, skip retinoids, acids and exfoliation for five to seven days, avoid heat, sweat and direct sun for 48 hours, and wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen every day. Do not pick or peel flaking skin.

The series and maintenance
BioRePeel is repeated every two to four weeks, usually three to four times for tone and texture and up to six for acne or pigmentation. Medium peels are spaced further apart. After the series, a peel every two to three months maintains the result, and microneedling can be added to the plan for scars or laxity.
Results
Results, healing time and downtime
After a BioRePeel the skin looks brighter and feels smoother within two to three days, once the light flaking has finished. Tone evens and breakouts calm over a series, and fine lines soften as collagen builds over six to eight weeks. Melasma and deeper pigmentation improve gradually and need consistent sun protection to hold. Results from a series last several months and are maintained with a peel every two to three months and daily sunscreen.
Healing time depends on the depth. BioRePeel causes little to no visible peeling: expect mild pinkness for a few hours and dry flaking for one to two days, with no time off. A medium TCA peel causes darkening and peeling of the surface for five to seven days. Uncommon effects are temporary redness lasting longer than expected, a cold sore flare in patients who get them, and post-inflammatory pigmentation, which careful peel selection and sun protection prevent.
Candidates and safety
Who is a good candidate for a chemical peel
Peels suit adults with dull or uneven skin, sun damage, acne, congestion, superficial scarring or early lines who want visible improvement with little downtime. BioRePeel suits all skin tones, including darker skin that is prone to pigmentation, because it renews the skin with little surface injury. Patients on a maintenance program often alternate peels with microneedling.
Treatment is postponed with an active cold sore, open wounds, sunburn or a recent wax in the area, and with isotretinoin use in the past six months. Peels are avoided during pregnancy and breastfeeding except for the gentlest formulations, with a history of keloid scarring, and with certain autoimmune skin conditions. Tell Tami about retinoids, recent laser or microneedling, photosensitizing medications and any allergy to aspirin (relevant for salicylic acid). Sun protection after a peel is a requirement for every skin tone.
