Overview

What IV therapy is and how it works

IV therapy places a small catheter in a vein, usually in the forearm or the back of the hand, and delivers a sterile solution of fluids, electrolytes, vitamins and minerals over 45 to 60 minutes. Because the nutrients enter the bloodstream directly, they bypass the digestive system, where absorption of oral supplements varies and is limited for some vitamins, and the full dose reaches the tissues within the hour.

Rethink offers three drips. Immunity delivers vitamins and minerals that support the immune system during stress, travel or the cold season. Beauty pairs fluids with vitamins and antioxidants that support skin, hair and nails. Hydration restores fluid and electrolyte balance after illness, heat, exercise or a long flight. Formulations are reviewed with you at the consultation and adjusted to your health history and goals.

IV therapy at Rethink is a medical service. Before your first drip Tami reviews your health history, medications and heart and kidney health, checks your blood pressure and confirms that an infusion is appropriate. Patients from Manhasset, Great Neck, Port Washington and across Nassau County book drips for recovery, for energy during demanding weeks and as part of a broader wellness plan that may include vitamin injections, weight management or peptide therapy.

What it treats

What IV therapy helps with

IV drips address short-term needs and support longer-term wellness. They do not replace a balanced diet or medical treatment for an underlying condition, and Tami will say so when a blood test or a referral is the better next step.

  • Dehydration after illness, travel, heat or intense exercise
  • Low energy and fatigue during demanding weeks
  • Immune support before travel and during the cold season
  • Recovery after a long flight, a late night or a race
  • Dull, dehydrated skin, brittle nails and hair (Beauty drip)
  • Nausea and headaches linked to dehydration
  • Athletic recovery and muscle cramps
  • Support during a weight management program
  • Scheduled maintenance drips every 2 to 4 weeks

How it works

How an IV therapy visit works at Rethink

Drips take 45 to 60 minutes in a private treatment suite at 496 Plandome Road. New patients begin with a complimentary consultation, and the first drip usually follows at the same visit.

01

Consultation and screening

Tami reviews your health history, medications, allergies and any heart or kidney conditions, checks your blood pressure and asks about your goals for the drip. Based on this she recommends Immunity, Beauty or Hydration, adjusts the volume and confirms that an infusion is appropriate for you that day.

02

Placing the IV

The site is cleaned, a small catheter is placed in a vein in the forearm or hand, and the drip is connected. Placement takes a minute or two. Tami's clinical background in emergency medicine and interventional radiology involved daily IV placement, which matters for comfort and for patients with small or difficult veins.

03

The infusion

The solution runs over 45 to 60 minutes while you rest in a reclining chair. You can read, work or close your eyes. Tami stays in the suite, monitors how you feel and adjusts the rate if needed. A cool sensation in the arm is normal. Pain or swelling at the site is checked immediately.

04

After the drip

The catheter is removed and a small dressing covers the site for a few hours. You can drive and return to your day immediately. Drink water through the day and expect the effect on energy and hydration within a few hours. Maintenance timing, if any, is set with you: many patients return every 2 to 4 weeks, others only around travel or illness.

Results

What to expect from IV therapy and how long it lasts

Most patients feel the effect of a Hydration or Immunity drip the same day: a clearer head, more energy and relief from the dryness and fatigue that come with dehydration. The direct effect of the fluids lasts one to several days, depending on how depleted you were and what you do afterwards. Vitamins that the body stores, such as B12, keep working for weeks. Skin changes from the Beauty drip are subtle and build with a series.

There is no downtime. Common effects are limited to a small bruise or tenderness at the catheter site for a day or two, a cool feeling in the arm during the drip and, occasionally, a metallic taste or flushing as certain vitamins go in, which passes within minutes. Tami slows the infusion when that happens. Anyone with a history of vein problems, heart or kidney disease or fluid restrictions is screened at the consultation and, where needed, referred to their physician first.

Candidates and safety

Who IV therapy is for and when it is postponed

IV therapy suits healthy adults who are run down, dehydrated, recovering from illness or travel, preparing for a demanding stretch or supporting skin and hair from within. It is popular with patients on a weight management or wellness program at Rethink, where the drip fits into an existing medical plan. You need no referral, and a short screening replaces the consultation for returning patients.

IV therapy is postponed or declined when you are pregnant or breastfeeding without your obstetrician’s approval, when you have congestive heart failure, kidney disease or a fluid restriction, when you have a fever or an active infection, or when a vitamin in the drip is one you are allergic to or your physician has told you to avoid, such as high-dose vitamin C with certain conditions. Tell Tami about all medications and supplements. IV therapy does not treat a medical illness. If your symptoms point to one, she will say so and help you find the right care.

Why Rethink

Why patients choose Rethink for IV therapy

Placing an IV is a clinical skill. Tami Abramov, MSN, FNP-BC, is a board-certified family nurse practitioner who placed IV lines daily in emergency medicine and interventional radiology before founding Rethink Aesthetics & Wellness. She screens every patient herself, places every line and stays in the room for the infusion.

The practice sees one patient at a time in a private suite in Manhasset, on Long Island’s North Shore, so a drip is a quiet hour and a conversation about how you feel and what else might help, from vitamin injections to weight management. Drips are prepared on the day for each patient, and every formulation is reviewed against your health history before it is mixed.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What is IV therapy?

IV therapy delivers a sterile solution of fluids, electrolytes, vitamins and minerals directly into a vein through a small catheter, usually in the arm. Because the digestive system is bypassed, the full dose is available to the body within the hour. At Rethink the drips are Immunity, Beauty and Hydration, each adjusted to your health history and goals.

Is IV therapy safe?

Yes, when a licensed medical provider screens you first and places and monitors the line. Risks are small and mostly local: a bruise or tenderness at the site, rarely inflammation of the vein. Tami reviews your heart and kidney health, medications and allergies before every first drip, uses sterile single-use supplies and stays in the suite during the infusion.

How much does IV therapy cost in Manhasset?

Drips at Rethink start at $150, with vitamin injections from $40. The price includes screening, placement and monitoring. Insurance does not cover wellness IV therapy, and payment plans and packages are available for patients who book a series.

How long does IV therapy take, and how long does it last?

Plan on 45 to 60 minutes for the drip itself and about an hour for a first visit with the consultation. The hydration effect lasts one to several days, energy often improves for several days to a week, and stored vitamins such as B12 keep working for weeks. How often to return depends on your goals; every 2 to 4 weeks is common for maintenance.

Do you offer NAD+ drips or a Myers' cocktail?

The current menu is Immunity, Beauty and Hydration. If you are interested in another formulation, mention it when you book: Tami will tell you what she can prepare and whether it is appropriate for you.

Can I get IV therapy at home?

Select treatments are available as VIP home visits in Queens. Tell us when you book, and Tami will confirm whether your drip can be done at home and what the screening looks like.

Does IV therapy work, and who should skip it?

Fluids, electrolytes and vitamins given intravenously reliably correct dehydration and vitamin shortfalls; how noticeable the effect is depends on how depleted you were. Healthy adults with a balanced diet notice less than patients recovering from illness, travel or a demanding stretch. Skip IV therapy during pregnancy without your obstetrician's approval, with heart failure, kidney disease or a fluid restriction, and with a fever or active infection.
